How Many Bottles of Crazy Color Do I Need?
It is one of the most common questions about Crazy Color: “How many do I need?” The honest answer depends on two things – how much hair you have, and how light it is before you start. Get both right and your colour comes out even, bright and saturated from root to tip.
Quick guide: bottles per hair length
Crazy Color comes in 100ml tubs and goes straight onto the hair – no developer, no mixing. As a rule of thumb:
- Short hair or a colour top-up: 1 bottle
- Short hair you want fully saturated (especially lighter shades): 2 bottles
- Mid-length hair: 2 bottles
- Long hair: around 3–4 bottles
Thick hair drinks more product, so if you are between two sizes, go up. Running out halfway is the one thing you really want to avoid – the last section never matches.
Why the starting colour matters
Crazy Color is a semi-permanent, conditioning colour. It does not lighten hair – it adds colour on top of what is already there. That is why it works best on hair that has been pre-lightened to level 9 or 10 (a very pale blonde). The paler the base, the brighter and truer the shade.
Not ready to bleach? Some of the darker shades still give an all-over tone on hair between levels 4 and 7, including Vermillion Red, Cyclamen, Peacock Blue, Pine Green, Aubergine, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Hot Purple, Ruby Rouge, Sapphire and Black. Expect a rich tint rather than a neon result.

Before you start
- Strand test. Try the colour on a hidden section first to check the result.
- Patch test. Crazy Color is PPD-free and made with a gentle plant-based formula, but you should always patch test any new hair product.
- Shampoo and towel-dry. Apply to clean, towel-dried hair, starting at the roots and working in sections.
- Leave it on. 15–30 minutes depending on your hair, or up to 1 hour for grey coverage.
- Rinse with lukewarm water only – no shampoo – and follow with Rainbow Care Conditioner.
Done right, the colour lasts around 10 washes with good aftercare.
